Five Feet Apart

If you loved reading The Fault in our Stars, you would love Five Feet Apart by Rachael Lippincott. The main characters in the story are Will Newman and Stella Grant. Both characters have cystic fibrosis, but Will also has B. Cepacia. We learn in the book that people who have cystic fibrosis cannot be any closer than six feet apart. If they are any closer, they can catch each other's infections. When Stella and Will meet, they can't stand each other.

Stella is a rule follower who has to have a to-do list. Will always breaks the rules and takes risks. They are complete opposites, but you know the saying. Opposites attract. When Stella finds out that Will has not been doing treatments she goes a little crazy. The two make a deal, and Will has to follow his regiments if he can draw Stella. As the pair grow closer, they learn more about each other. They learn about their past, family, and dreams. One day Stella came up with a plan to get a little closer to Will. She explains in the book, "So, after all that CF has stolen from me- from us- I'm stealing something back. I'm stealing three hundred and four point eight millimeters. Twelve whole inches. One foot of space, distance, length" (Lippincott 172). Stella decides to take one foot away from the six-foot guideline.

The book has many twists and turns that will have you rapped into the book. The love story makes you turn the page to see what will happen to Will and Stella. I also loved learning throughout the story about cystic fibrosis. Before reading, I had no idea what CF was. Five Feet Apart did an excellent job explaining what it was and the symptoms and problems that can come with it. Finishing the book I now know a little more.

  1. I have seen the previews for the movie version of the book all over TV. I usually always want to read a book before seeing a movie. I did not even know this was a book, so thank you for sharing! I know very little about CF, so it would be interesting to learn more about it. It sounds like the main characters compliment each other well and I would love to read about it. I also really like the cover of the book! Thank you for sharing!
